From Tues. Ecchsaminer, this scooplet on Frank

... Alex Clemens, host of the online news digest SFUsualSuspects.com, is reaping attention for his Barbary Coast Consulting firm after paying San Francisco's most ubiquitous demonstrator, Frank Chu, to carry advertising on the back of his oracular "12 Galaxies" sign. Oakland resident Chu, a local icon who eats free at the Mission bar named after his cryptic campaign (which involves religious attendance at protests around the Bay as well as a plot line having to do with stolen royalties from a film, the CIA and the impeachment of Bill Clinton), was spotted outside City Hall last week with a placard heralding Clemens' shop as "Creative Communication for Ten of the Twelve Galaxies," with the tagline, "Expanding to all 12 galaxies by 2007. Honest." ... "I've been handling phone calls from fans of Frank's for the past few days," Clemens said. "There are a lot of people in San Francisco who consider him iconic." ... And has the work flooded in? Said the circumspect Clemens: "It helps to build our brand."

Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, January 25, 2005 - 12:26 PMThat's capitalism for you! From colorful street character with a unique niche, beloved by urban cognoscenti...to commodified property with a tribute night club. Used to take decades for this kind of appropriation to occur, now mere news cycles. -

Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, January 25, 2005 - 1:06 PMso how do you feel about it? disdain, neutrality? -

Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, January 25, 2005 - 1:43 PMHas been bruited about on this tribe:
toronto.tribe.net/thread/ac...ff89ca608e
Resigned is probably the best one word description of how I feel. As long as the 12 Galaxies don't get rich off of Frank's meme-ius. It is a bit depressing that all he reaps from their appropriation is an open-mike stage, and some free sandwiches & beer... -

Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 4:54 PMEven though Frank is a Republican, I think he somehow represents all that is good about capitalism and commercialism in general. Frank provides a unique and valuable service... and is compensated. Beautiful. It almost makes me cry, actually. -

Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 5:01 PMI was security at the ProChoice rally recently and had the honor of telling Mr. Chu where he was not allowed. He tried to cross my area of the line that was protecing the speakers from the pressing crowd... he wanted to jump in front of cameras that were up close on Newsom (who was behind me being interviewed). The whole thing felt odd to me. -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 8:53 PMWe know who to call next time Mr Chu needs a personal security detail! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 8:55 PMhey I'd be happy to lend a hand....gotta keep those women off of him! oh wait....he's into orgies....I forgot. -
-

Mon, January 31, 2005 - 8:59 PM<I think he somehow represents all that is good about capitalism and commercialism in general.>
thanks for extoling the virtues of capitalism for us, josh. i'll file that along with your discourses on the homeless, and/or kids who spare-change. -

Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 9:02 PMFrank may be a bad Republican (certainly a far cry from Santorumish ilk) but he's a good man. -
-
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 9:05 PMCOME ON CHU DIX
Frank Da Man. -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 9:08 PMand hey -- dude's into orgies!
come on frank dick! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 9:11 PMThe business about orgies, need I remind folks, is all hearsay...from a not unimpeachable source. To verify we may need a few volunteers! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 10:02 PMhey that "hearsay" came from ME dude! he TOLD ME himself! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 10:08 PMNot to impugn you as a source, Dina Marie. Not at all. It's Frank that I wonder about.... Talk is cheap, esp sex talk (unless one dials a 900 number). We don't know if these orgies are fantasies, or something he only experiences when in the 130 Galaxies, or the 12 Galaxies, or wherever.
I don't cite Reagan very often - not approvingly, anyway - but with Frank we may trust...but verify if at all possible! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 10:14 PMwell does he participate in orgies, or just wish he did, or had?
from my recollection, senator, ms. marie expressed to us that mr. chu had expressed an interest in said orgies, nothing more.
and i am not a potted plant. -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Mon, January 31, 2005 - 10:18 PMSee how easy it is for hearsay to get out of hand?
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 12:36 AMFrank Chu had orgies with Ronald Reagan in the 152 Galaxies. I swear. -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 6:45 AMAll the more reason for this tribe to offer Frank his own Secret Service! I'm glad we now have Dina Marie and Iona on the detail! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 10:08 AMLOL... you want pictures... I am on to you Amor! -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 11:43 AMi just caught myself clicking on dina marie's profile yet again ... that's one more view on you, DM.
can we have our own orgy? you know -- the chu tribe? -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 2:29 PMegad and you probably had orgies on the brain as you were perusing me.....oh...my...god. if I see Frank-a-licious tomorrow I'll suggest a V-Day orgy....who's in? -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Tue, February 1, 2005 - 3:47 PMI'll just say here for the record: I don't refuse drinks! And an orgy with Frank and Dina Marie??? *swoon* -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Sat, February 5, 2005 - 4:02 PMdid we have the orgy yet? -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Sat, February 5, 2005 - 4:11 PMIn Berkeley I asked Frank if he had been to any orgies. He said no, but he was concerned to reveal the orgies happening in Washington DC, behind closed doors. It puzzled him that the media hasn't picked up on this yet, although he does wangle rides from TV station cameramen with some regularity. -
-
Re: more ink on Chu
Sat, February 5, 2005 - 7:03 PMin sf we know very well -- it's all behind closed doors in washington ...
