i was in SF very briefly for a job interview last week -- but it was evidently enough time to see frank. check out the new pics in the gallery.

has anyone noticed how much weight frank has gained in the last few years? just compare to the earlier pics in the gallery.

still, he seems happier now.

and it's nice to see he's keeping contemporary -- continually updating the sign to reflect changing galaxies and earthly media distribution.

On one of my less frequent forays onto campus, I found Frank at a lunch time rally in Biko Plaza. The legendary whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg is at the microphone. As Frank was telling me about the 12 Galaxies keeping him from hitting ski slopes, we were shushed by some irritable demo-goers near the very spot where the Free Speech Movement was born.

tonight I was downtown walking the virgin megastore when I noticed a group of storm troopers guarding the entrance, surrounded by the whole star wars gang, and our favorite outer space conduit frank chu. you have to give the man credit, he might actually be the hardest working man in show business. getting up early in the morning pounding the pavement spreading his message, staying out til the evening, hanging out with bun headed princesses from far off galaxies, it's no easy task, I'm sure. I took a picture with my camera phone (it was all I had) so the quality is not good, and I'm not sure how to get it on my computer....I will have to look into it.

found frank on market street on day 2 of my quest to find him and purchase one of his signs. he had two signs, with one taped on top of the other, so he was well equipped to sell me one!

my brief conversation with him followed the usual pattern, starting with what news coverage he's had/thinks he's had recently. i always wonder if anyone ever tries to suggest to him that maybe all this 12 galaxies business is all in his head? or asked for a video copy of the richest billionaire at the very least. and what's the deal with that, was it a movie or a tv show? he seems to go back and forth on that.

Frank and the Onion

At 5:30 in the Afternoon Frank walks up Montgomery to reach the nice crowds for his protests. If I run into him I will have a couple of beers and we will discuss the protests.
Yesterday he was telling me about his trip to Stockton.
I told him about the Onion/Craigslist Party at 12 Galaxies on Friday. The Onion MUST have Frank as a columnist such as "Ask Frank Chu".
We were walking to Happy Hour when we heard a marching band. It seemed the Onion was marching up the street towards us.
So Frank walked to them and they knew they met their hero.
They took his pictures and he joined their parade.
Hopefully they will give Frank an open mike on Friday.

The path will be up Powell to a bar in Union Square (the choice will be based on the size of the group)
Then we will go to Union Square to hear some speeches.

We will turn at Sutter and then go up Grant and then through Northbeach and end up at Fisherman's Wharf and maybe have some regular beers on Pier 39.
It will all be worth it if some perplexed tourist in Fisherman's Wharf goes back and tells that people in San Francisco are protesting some elaborate Intergalactic conspiracy.

As I crossed Sproul Plaza today just before noon, who do I run into but Frank Chu! He had learned via the internet (which he trolls in the office of a lawyer friend) that the Women in Black were having a lunch hour demo at UC Berkeley.

If they aren't there every Friday, I still see the Women in Black often enough. Their cause: ending the oppression of the Palestinians.

Frank says he comes to campus maybe twice a year, so I counted myself lucky that our paths crossed today so handily without warning.

Ran into Frank last night at Matt Gonzalez's monthly art party. The second to last that he'll have in City Hall, and the last that I'll be able to attend.

I got there fairly early, and left abt 6:30, but sensing my mission incomplete, returned to find Frank there. At first I almost didn't recognize him without his sign and sunglasses. Did security take his sign? No, he left it in the car of ...the ladyfriend we have been hearing about for so many months. I finally got to meet her: she exists!

Friday 10/29 - Frank

Did not see Frank as expected at Critical Mass. But he did manifest later that evening at his clubhouse, the 12 Galaxies bar during the Acid Cabaret.

I asked if he was registered to vote. He said he is, but he has never voted. Why not? "Discriminations" and other countervailing forces. But even without his vote, he expects a Kerry win, as previously reported here by Dina Marie.

He left at 11:45, probably so he could catch BART home by midnight.

I was turning into a pumpkin myself, and the last I saw he was entering the Walgreens at 23rd and Mission, with his sign respectfully inverted.

I ran into Frank today at Decompression, and I asked him what he thought about the debates. He said that Kerry was guiltied of backroom dealings with the CIA and Warner Brothers, but according to the twelve galaxies and the 130 galaxies (which I had never heard him speak of before) Kerry was going to win the election.

So there you have it, Frank says Kerry is going to win. Fancy that!

Just saw Frank on my lunch break walking down Kearny Street...he gave me his plans for the weekend.....

They are:

Tonight, possible drinks at the Palace Hotel with some person I'm not sure who.

Saturday he's not sure yet but said probably Fisherman's Wharf.

and Sunday-FOLSOM Street Fair! Perhaps someone can make a small donation to Frank with some new leather gear! or at the very least sponsor the back of his sign.

I also told him about Castro Street Fair the following Sunday and he said he'd most likely go to that.
